Peter Redmond to Advocate for GAA's
Best Aquaculture Practices

[ CURRENT RELEASE ]

The Global Aquaculture Alliance, the global standards setter for aquaculture seafood, has announced that Peter Redmond will become part of the GAA team effective May 19, promoting GAA's Best Aquaculture Practices (BAP) certification program to retail and foodservice operators in the United States and the European Union.

Redmond, who has formed a consulting company, Epiphany Group Ltd., most recently served as senior director in Wal-Mart's sustainability department after five years as its vice president and divisional merchandise manager of deli and seafood.

According to GAA Executive Director Wally Stevens, Redmond's decision to help GAA take the BAP program to the marketplace further signifies GAA's leadership in the development and implementation of aquaculture standards that meet the needs of the marketplace.

"We are pleased that Peter has decided to join forces with GAA to take the message of BAP to other retail and foodservice leaders," Stevens said. "He has been a strong supporter of BAP for aquaculture products, and has championed BAP as the way forward, based on the program's pragmatic, yet science-based standards. We could not be happier with this development."

Redmond said GAA will become an important client for his new consulting firm, and said he is equally pleased with the new affiliation with GAA. "In my former role with Wal-Mart, I had the opportunity to review many ecolabeling programs," he said. "BAP, in my view, has the broadest stakeholder approval of any program being proposed today. I am equally honored to be part of this exciting program and excellent team."
